Causes of Panic Attacks
Anxiety. Fear. Fight or Flight response. These are the root causes of panic attacks. Are they real? Yes! Are they rational? Yes and No...…but that doesn't make them any less frustrating.
People suffer from anxiety disorders for many reasons. It could stem from an imbalance in brain chemicals, life situations such as stress, or even some medical conditions such as asthma. So there can be rational causes of the attacks, or as in some life situations, you may not exactly know what is triggering your anxiety.
Anxiety disorder is not a mental illness, it is a behavioral problem that can be corrected with the right information.
Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks
The symptoms of anxiety attacks are both physical and emotional. Fear, panic, racing heart, dry mouth, can all be present for no apparent reason. The anxiety attack will not harm you! You are not in danger from the attack itself.
Many people struggle with general anxiety disorder or GAD for years. A person has irrational worry about everyday situations continually. Again, for a person living with this daily struggle, working and building on their self esteem is not, nor can be a priority until the anxiety issue is taken care of.
When a person is experiencing an attack there is no place that feels safe. Then they begin to avoid any situation that may make them anxious. These experiences can leave a lasting effect on a person, causing them to then live in fear of the attacks themselves. Once this happens a vicious cycle is begun, leaving them will little incentive to seek out the treatments for anxiety disorder.
Living in fear can cause a person to also feel like they have failed, thus lowering their esteem. If you struggle with panic attacks and you are looking for treatments then don't give up. Keep fighting for the life that you deserve! No one should live in fear.
The severity of your attacks can determine the type of treatments for anxiety disorder that you may need. For some people, the anxiety is caused by any number of pressures in life. When the external pressure leaves, the panic attacks are over. Other people learn relaxation or distraction techniques to help them better deal with their panic attacks.
If the anxiety disorder is severe, and you cannot find the proper relaxation or distraction techniques on your own, then you may need therapy. There is nothing wrong with seeking therapy for this disorder as sometimes you just might not have the information you need to help yourself at the time.
Try this quick technique and see if it can help you.
The next time you begin to experience a panic attack, do not try to force the feeling away. Remember this point "What you resist, Persist". The more you try and resist, the more emotional value and attention you are actually giving to that situation. You are actually working hard at focusing on what you don't want!
Find something to distract your self with. Anything. Music-dance, make your grocery list, plan your weekly menu, or recite your favorite literature passage. Just distract yourself. This just might be the right technique for you!
Decide today – to work. Work at doing your best, being your best, and accepting the best!
